The Wood Buffalo Healthy Families Program is a new study focusing on strengths in five Indigenous communities in northern Alberta. It will look at how Indigenous programs can improve the health and wellbeing of children, women, and families. In this study, we aim to make sure communities have a say in all parts of the research, especially in how to measure mental wellness over time. We also aim to understand how two different programs in the region help mental wellness. These programs are called 'Aunties within Reach' and the 'Elder Mentoring Program.' We hope that this research will help Indigenous communities to support healthy environments for children, women, and families. We also hope that this project will reveal the ways that Indigenous culture and knowledge can help mental wellness. With this information, we can support Indigenous communities to get more funding for the programs they want to deliver.
