Ovarian cancer represents a challenge to treat because most women are diagnosed with advanced stage disease. It is also very diverse biologically and precision medicine that aligns specific therapy to each genetic type of ovarian cancer is needed. While recent advances in therapy has improved the outcome for selected genetic subtype of ovarian cancer, treatment for other genetic subtypes of ovarian cancer continues to lag behind as these women experiences unrelenting progressive disease despite standard-of-care conventional treatment. In the proposed research study, we will focus on the clinically aggressive genetic subtype of ovarian cancer that lacks effective treatment. We plan to evaluate for potential therapeutic vulnerabilities that are associated specific genetic abnormality in these aggressive ovarian cancers. This will help to identify anti-cancer drugs that are effective in pre-clinical experimental models of these aggressive human ovarian cancer, which can then be further considered for clinical study on women with the specific genetic subtype of ovarian cancer. By focusing on the genetic type of ovarian cancer that are most difficult to treat, we hope to make a significant positive impact on the quality of life of women affected by these aggressive cancers.
