Background: Women's health, though once overlooked, has begun to gain traction as an important area of education for medical professionals. Specifically, family medicine, as a primary care profession, requires proficient women's specific health education to provide equitable healthcare to the wide variety of demographics they treat. To assess proficiency in clinical skills of Family Medicine residents, residents are evaluated in clinical scenarios. Within these evaluations includes information regarding the clinical topic assessed, the competency of the resident and feedback given to the resident. The evaluations are uploaded to the Competency-Based Achievement System (CBAS) as FieldNotes. The FieldNotes provide information on the clinical scenarios and education experienced by Family medicine residents. Objective: To understand what specific women's health topics are being incorporated into family medicine residency curriculum currently as well as how this curriculum has changed in the past 10 years. Research Questions: 1) What trends can be identified over time in the content and frequency of family medicine residents' clinical teaching about women's health?; 2) What emergent topics in women's health can be identified in the last 5 years?; and 3) To what extent are there gender differences in the content and amount of family medicine residents' clinical teaching about women's health topics? Methods: We will search through the CBAS system to identify trends over the past 10 years to answer our proposed research questions. Expected Outcomes/Benefits: This project will have multiple benefits. The research conducted will highlight important women's health topics that have emerged recently. It will allow us to understand trends and gaps in the teaching of women's health to family medicine residents. The information regarding the clinical experience of their students and if it is in-line with their intended curriculum will be provided to the residency program.
