The family is a foundational institution across all cultures, essential to the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual development of their children. Family involvement in a child's health care positively influences treatment outcomes. Therefore, it is vital that families have access to essential and complex health information. Recently novel approaches such as the use of stories, arts, and digital media have been developed to engage families and translate complex health information. The purpose of this knowledge translation (KT) research is to build upon the active engagement of health care consumers to develop, implement, and evaluate an innovative KT tool (i.e., eBook with embedded audio and visual features) about ear infection (acute otitis media, a common pediatric condition), for diverse cultural contexts. This research project will involve five phases: 1. An overview of up-to-date research evidence and guidelines on acute otitis media will be conducted. 2. Second, a qualitative study to understand parents' experience in caring for a child with otitis media will be completed. 3. Based on the results of the overview and parent interviews, an eBook for parents will be developed. 4. Before the wide dissemination of this eBook, a mixed methods study (qualitative and quantitative; surveys and interviews) will be conducted to determine its usability and usefulness for parents. 5. To trial the augmentation of this tool in a different cultural context, aspects of the eBook will be revised and then evaluated within the Pakistani context.
