Summary of research:
My work in the areas of Neonatology, Developmental Pediatrics and Neonatal Follow-up focusses on clinical practice and research in the area of early identification, prognostication and management of atypical development. This starts in the perinatal period, thus my clinical work and certification in both Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine and Developmental Pediatrics marry well with my training in Perinatal Epidemiology in understanding perinatal events and long term outcomes. I am actively involved in Neonatal Acute Clinical Care, Neonatal Follow-up, Neuromotor Care and in Research in all of these areas. My specific research projects include 1) Prediction of outcomes for infants who experience asphyxia or complex interventions around the time of delivery using innovative technologies as well as a novel assessment of infant movements; 2) Understanding how common asphyxia is in Alberta and risk factors for this; and 3) Outcome assessment and risk factor analysis of children who are born extremely preterm or who have complex interventions early in life.
