Dr Papathanassoglou’s research interests focus on the critical illness trajectory and on non- pharmacological interventions to improve patients’ experience and outcomes. She combines basic science with the nursing management of acutely ill patients. She studies the role of stress and pain in critical illness and how they may affect patients’ outcomes and precipitate the onset multiple organ dysfunction and immune cell death. Further she focuses on the modulation of these events by psychosocial and integrative nursing interventions.
Dr Papathanassoglou has a record of over 100 publications in peer reviewed journals and her published work has received over 1,500 citations. She has delivered 250 lectures/ papers at international and national conferences. She is associate editor of Connect: The World Journal of Critical Care Nursing. Dr Papathanassoglou has 16 years of academic teaching experience.
