Having background in Dentistry, Orthodontics, Law and Bioengineering directed me to investigate clinically applicable methods to treat craniofacial anomalies and teeth repair. Craniofacial anomalies usually are managed primarily by surgical intervention and dental treatment that usually require orthodontic intervention. Orthodontic treatment usually leads to varying degrees of teeth root resorption, and in severe cases long term prognosis of the affected teeth is questionable. Discovering that Low Intensity Pulsed Ultrasound (LIPUS) can help prevention of teeth root resorption and promote lower jaw growth in animals, encouraged me to continue my research towards applying this treatment modality to human, especially children with craniofacial anomalies. My research is focusing on using LIPUS as well as gene therapy to lower jaw growth stimulation as well as teeth root repair.
