My laboratory studies the neural control and development of the mammalian respiratory system with an emphasis on basic research pertaining to clinical disorders. This includes: 1) Use of teratogenic and transgenic rodent models to examine the pathogenesis and etiology of congenital diaphragmatic hernia. 2) In vitro and in vivo rodent models to examine the cellular, synaptic and neurochemical control of perinatal respiration. 3) Development of ampakine therapy to alleviate respiratory depression. 4) Study of central respiratory defects in genetic mouse models of Prader-Willi and Rett Syndromes.
