My research focus is on (1) bone regeneration and (2) cancer therapy. In bone regeneration, we develop novel approaches to deliver bone-acting anabolic agents (e.g. BMPs) in order to stimulate local an systemic bone formation. We develop bone seeking drug carriers based on bone-binding bisphosphonates, so that the carriers deliver any systemically administered drugs to bone with minimal distribution to other sites. The focus of this work is local regeneration of bones (fracture healing), as well as systemic regeneration (e.g., osteoporosis therapy) using growth factors. In cancer research, we are developing novel drug carriers in order to make siRNA effective in a wide variety of cancers, including breast cancer and childhood leukemia. We are actively seeking novel targets as siRNA (for down-regulation) and develop new biomaterials to bind and deliver the agents to cancer sites.
