Summary of research:
It is my mission to disseminate the importance of training future surgeons on the principles of evidence based medicine; simply do, and advise based on solid proof. It is not good enough for future surgeons to be good with their hands, and pass exams. It is imperative to strive for the rest of their lives to evaluate the information on which we base our diagnosis and advice. I believe that with the change in technology and concepts of research, a lot of what has been a basis for my teaching is now obsolete. As such many common problems are either under served or missed altogether, and many options for helping the children are either outmoded or require revisiting. Also the partnership of the child and parent needs to be more at the heart of our philosophy of service. Our partners in anesthesia, intensive care, chest medicine, gastroenterology, orthodontics, speech and language pathology, and audiology, developmental medicine and industry, among many also offer help and assistance informing teams and working in unison to serve the families in a timely and holistic fashion. Largely my focus is on breathing problems related to the voice box, windpipe, and its branches, sleep apnea, and swallowing problems. I focus on identifying how the disease progresses naturally, and on measuring results of treatment, and newer methods for diagnosis.
