Food safety is a global public health issue. My research focuses on foodborne pathogens, such as Campylobacter, Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Salmonella. In particular, my major focus has been on the resistance mechanism of Campylobacter, an important foodborne pathogen in Canada and other countries. I have investigated Campylobacter's transfer of antibiotic resistance genes, multidrug efflux pumps and oxidative stress resistance. In addition, I am currently developing antisense-based multidrug efflux pump inhibitors to mitigate multidrug resistance problems; this project is funded by NIH.
