Controlling blood pressure in healthy and complicated pregnancies

Pregnancy is a unique period in which a woman’s heart and blood vessels, also known as the cardiovascular system, change dramatically. Most women are healthy during their pregnancies, but some will develop complications and these can impact mom and baby’s health. Meah aims to develop simple tools that can be easily used to identify women at risk of complications during pregnancy.

With a goal of decreasing the burden of pregnancy complications to both mothers and babies, Meah aspires lead a research program focused on women’s and children’s health before, during and after pregnancy. This fellowship provides her the opportunity to investigate tools that could predict high blood pressure in pregnancy—leading to better diagnosis, treatment and outcomes for both the mother and baby.

This fellowship has been funded by the generosity of the Alberta Women’s Health Foundation through the Women and Children’s Health Research Institute.
