Summary:Dr. Wei focuses on school mental health research within the context of mental health literacy approach at the elementary/primary, secondary and post-secondary school levels. Her school mental health research aims to help children and youth gain better understanding about mental health and mental disorders, reduce stigma against mental illness, obtain and maintain good mental health and enhance help-seeking intentions and behaviors to health services. Dr Wei's research further targets to build connections between the education and health care systems to improve the quality of referral and care between systems. Embedded in this process is to build educator capacity to early identify children and youth at risk of mental disorders and provide effective and appropriate referral to services. This enables Dr. Wei's research to investigate factors that influence the quality of referrals from schools to mental health services. Her work is interdisciplinary and geared to contributing to mental health promotion and early identification and intervention at national and international levels.
