My research program is focussed on the concept that improving cardiac energy production and utilization can be used to treat heart failure. The goals of my program are to improve the understanding of the metabolic derangements that occur in heart failure, identify new targets for pharmacotherapy, and test new drugs that may target these pathways so that we can advance beneficial drugs to early stage clinical studies in order to help treat heart failure. I also study the molecular signaling events in the heart that are altered during a wide variety of cardiac insult ranging from chemotherapy-induced cardiotoxicity to diabetes.
