Peer review committee membership
WCHRI relies upon committees to ensure scientific rigor and research excellence through robust scientific review. Overall, WCHRI committees reflect the breadth and strength necessary to support broad scientific review. WCHRI nominates and invites committee members based on:
- Research excellence
- Research expertise/area of expertise
Committee member responsibilities and expectations
We are pleased to work with our members and faculty across campus to assure expert, unbiased, and confidential application review for our competitive research grant programs. WCHRI committee member roles and responsibilities are supported with committee-specific terms of reference. Confidentiality and conflict of interest is managed through the use of detailed documentation outlining strict committee expectations and processes, endorsed by each committee member. Conflict, whether real or perceived, excludes members from any discussion and/or assessment of applications and/or application material relative to the conflict.
All reviewers are encouraged to complete the CIHR Learning Module on Unconscious Bias in Peer Review.
We recognize that the competitive application review process requires a significant time investment from our committee members; we sincerely appreciate the engagement of our members, and faculty across campus, in furthering research excellence in women and children’s health through participation in our review processes.
